Activities

A part of the Overland Park Historical Society’s mission is to educate the membership in the culture and history of Overland Park and it’s surrounding areas.
The Board of Directors and officers of the Society meet the first Saturday of every month at 10 a.m. to administer business or discuss projects and various activities. Any member or guest having business to be presented are welcome to attend.
The OPHS general membership meetings are held at 10 a.m. on the second Saturday of every other month (beginning with January) in the Overland Park Presbyterian Church, 8029 Overland Park Drive.
The exception is the July meeting when we picnic at the Strang Carriage House Patio. We invite outside speakers to cover a broad range of subjects; some Society business may be discussed. The public is invited to attend.
During the month of December we have a Christmas Luncheon with special music.
The OPHS News is published every other month of the year beginning with January. Schedules and other information concerning the Society is included keeping the membership informed. You can pick up a copy at the Strang Carriage House. Information for the Society may be sent to us HERE.
On occasion, we present a tour by bus within a 200 mile radius of Kansas City. Destinations include historical places, a restaurant and rest stops. The tour guide is knowledgeable and keeps the passengersInformed of all aspects. Watch for the schedule in The OPHS News.
A walking tour of Downtown Overland Park is offered from May through October usually in the morning hours. Stops at some of the businesses are included and the guide will explain some of the city’s history.
Phone 913-381-8867 for reservations.
The OPHS Book Club utilizes the Talk About Literature in Kansas book series for reviews. Location for discussions is the Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty, in Overland Park, Kansas. Discussion leaders are usually literature professors from the universities. Watch for the schedule in The OPHS News.
